MER/SER room cleaning

Dense cabling, cleaned without disturbing a link.

Meet-Me Rooms and Satellite Equipment Rooms are where the network meets and fans out. Dense patch frames, fibre and copper, with thousands of connections nothing should touch. We clean these rooms carefully around every link, ESD-safe and security-screened.

Where the network meets

A Meet-Me Room (MER) is where carriers and networks cross-connect; a Satellite Equipment Room (SER) fans that out towards the floors. Both are packed with patch frames, fibre trays and copper, with thousands of live links, much of it fragile optical fibre. Dust here is a quiet problem. It settles in trays and on frames and works into the airflow. In a room this dense, though, the real risk is not the dust. It is what a careless clean would knock loose. The whole job is to take the dust out without disturbing a single connection.

What we clean

The room-level work, around the cabling and frames, never at the connections.

  • Raised floor & sub-floor plenum
  • Cable trays, containment & trunking
  • Patch-frame & rack exteriors
  • Surfaces, ledges & glass
  • Ceiling void & overhead infrastructure
  • Entry zones & contamination mats

The inside of patch cabinets and frames is a dedicated, separate service.

Why care is everything here

In a MER/SER room the cleaning is the easy part. Not disturbing anything is the real work.

  • Fragile fibre

Optical fibre is delicate and dust-sensitive; a knock can unseat a connector or damage a splice. We work around it, never through it.

  • Connection integrity

One disturbed patch is an outage, and in a shared meet-me room that can affect several tenants at once. Nothing we do touches a live link.

  • Static (ESD)

Static around network gear can damage optics and electronics. All our staff are ESD-trained and work with antistatic materials.

  • Security & confidentiality

Meet-me rooms are shared, high-security spaces. Our staff are security-screened and work under strict confidentiality.

Around every connection

We take out the dust, nothing else

The whole method is built around one rule: never disturb a connection. We clean around dense cabling and frames, without ever pulling, moving or touching a patch or fibre. HEPA 14 extraction means dust leaves the room instead of being stirred back over the connectors. Everything is ESD-safe. And because meet-me rooms are shared, high-security spaces, our staff are security-screened and work under confidentiality.

How we work

A controlled, repeatable process, built around leaving every connection exactly as it was.

  1. 01

    Survey & map

We map the fragile zones, such as fibre trays and live frames, along with the access and how dense the room is.

  2. 02

    Tailored plan

A method matched to the room’s density: what we clean and how, agreed with your team in advance.

  3. 03

    Careful cleaning

Around the cabling and frames, ESD-safe with HEPA 14 extraction, without disturbing a single connection.

  4. 04

    Check & hand back

A final check: clean, every connection untouched, and handed back documented.

The standards we work to

The same controlled standards as your data halls, applied to the densest rooms in your network.

ESD-safe working

Antistatic materials and ESD-trained staff prevent the static discharges that damage optics and network electronics.

HEPA 14 filtration

Our extraction captures ≥99.995% of fine particles, so dust leaves the room instead of being stirred over the connectors.

ISO 14644-1 Class 8

The air-cleanliness benchmark used for data halls. Where required, we hold MER/SER rooms to it too.

Frequently asked questions

Will cleaning disturb our connections?

No. The entire method is built around never touching or moving a link. We clean around the cabling and frames, not through them.

Do you clean inside the patch cabinets?

The inside of patch cabinets and frames is a separate service with its own detailed approach, see patch cabinet cleaning. This service covers the room around them.

Is it safe around fibre?

Yes. Fibre is delicate, so we keep clear of trays and connectors, work ESD-safe, and let HEPA 14 extraction take the dust out rather than stirring it over the optics.

These are shared, high-security rooms. How do you handle that?

Our staff are security-screened and work under strict confidentiality; access and handling follow your site’s rules.

How often should a MER/SER room be cleaned?

It depends on density and traffic; we set the frequency from a survey. Because these rooms are rarely opened, periodic cleaning keeps dust from building up unseen.
